Linda Abbit is the Community Outreach Manager for the innovative Mind and Memory outpatient program at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, CA. A former caregiver with twenty-five-plus years’ experience, her blog, Tender Loving Eldercare, has grown into a Facebook community for caregivers. She is a prominent contributor to SeniorPlanet.org, where many of her stories remain in the top thirty articles read on the site. She holds a master’s in education, and has been vocal in the caregiving community for fifteen-plus years. Possibility the very best book written on this much needed subject.I'm so glad I'm having the chance to read this book.If I could give it more stars, I would.I highly recommend this book to all caregivers.
As a caregiver to a loved one with dementia, this book is a Godsend. I found the suggestions for self-care both insightful and timely. If you care for someone else, you also need to care for yourself. Perhaps this book will help you get started.
Nothing super new or earth shattering but helps to see and hear it in writing. Care for self in order to have energy to care for others.
It is as if the author was reading my mind.... The Conscious Caregiver obviously understands the challenges and accompanying worry, guilt, and love involved in caregiving. First, I felt understood (and maybe not so abnormal!) while reading about the conflicting feelings of caring for a loved one. Then I learned how to handle varied situations, handled with respect for both the caregiver and the person being cared for. The author's years of experience are evident in the practical solutions described.. Finally, I marked sections for future use, places we aren't at yet but may be eventually. I recommend the skilled experience, respectful perspective, immediately useful suggestions, and compassion in the this book.

I received this book as a gift and plan to gift it to friends who are now on or about to take the journey of taking care of an aging parent or loved one. A caregiver is so busy and focused taking care of an elder that he or she often suffers physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually at a time when it is most critical not to. The caregiver needs to learn how to stay sane and healthy and this book provides much needed and helpful info on how to do just that. The author has worked in the field of Tender Loving Eldercare for many years and definitely knows what she's taking about. This book covers many of things you'd never know until you are in this position. Prepare yourself and take care of yourself.
By Steve B This is a book so full of extraordinary advice and amazing insight that my wife and I only wish we had read it when we were dealing with our aged parents and relatives. Linda Abbit is an obvious expert in the field, and she does a remarkable job of preparing the reader for what can be one of the more difficult periods in your life. She makes you understand the phases you will encounter and the emotions you will be feeling. Best of all, she helps you realize you are not alone. This is something most of us will have to deal with in our lifetime and likely experience from the other end of the spectrum as we reach a certain age. This book is written with intelligence and compassion by a truly gifted author. If this isn't a must read for everybody, I don't know what is.
