This is a delightful story suitable for all denominations... not just Jewish folks. The illustrations are so sweet and appropriate. I'm giving it as gifts this holiday season. I love this book!

Great story and reliable seller.

The words on the back of the cover say it all about this beautifully written and illustrated story:"There's lots of love in Gracie's and Papa's lives, but not much money. Gracie finds a resourceful way to buy Papa some well-deserved Hanukkah gifts, but an encounter on a bitterly cold night opens her eyes and alters her plans. When we are brave enough to reach out instead of looking away, each of us can bring someone a miracle."

Traditions are so important. So is love, and there is plenty of love in Gracie’s house. It’s Hanukkah but Gracie and her Papa don’t have much money for gifts. In this beautifully, crafted rhyming story, readers learn about the power of giving. Gracie doesn’t know from new clothes or materialistic items, but rather hand-me-downs and being resourceful. But with Hanukkah coming she decides to find a job in a department store so that she can buy her papa something special. Only something happens to alter her plans. With unique digital vector illustrations, this story will tug at your heart and help to inspire new traditions for the holiday of Hanukkah.

This is a new tradition in our house, although we read it all year long. It is beautifully written in rhyme and beautifully illustrated. Although it is set during Hanukkah, it is primarily about the spirit of giving and love of family. We gave this as gifts to friends and family, young and old. We intend to read it as the Mystery Reader in our daughter's first grade class this year.

I just love reading this book over and over again. There are so many heart warming emotions in this book in addition to many lessons for children to recognize, discuss and learn with family. As a Pre-K teacher, we have had many conversations about the values and morals in this story. And then we end it with a prompt - "What would you do if you were Gracie?" "What is a miracle and who can make a miracle happen". As we discuss and as we read, we realize - We can all make a miracle happen, anytime we want!!

Gracies Night is read in our house every night. I can practically recite the book from memory but still haven't gotten sick of it and obviously neither have my 2 year old twins. The story is heart warming and emotional. The pictures are fantastic. I highly recommend it. I plan on sending it to all our niece's and nephew's this Hanauka.

Here I am once again to rain on the parade and complain about a PJ Library book that other reviewers loved. There's no question that the message of g'milut chasadim (acts of loving-kindness) and giving are important at a time of year when many children are focused on their presents. But, for various reasons I chose not to read this to my seven-year-old.****SPOILERS AHEAD****- Once again, zero diversity. I suspect this book was meant to be a "period piece" but that was not made explicit.- A little kid gets a job at Macy's, and unlike "Bea and Mr Jones" it is not presented in a silly, tongue-in-cheek way. My son would LOVE to get a job and has trouble understanding why he can't. He also has no concept of what things cost.- The point of getting that job was that "all this worry must end" - the family's bills are piling up. This is a needy family. Yet, Gracie spends her earnings on wrapped gifts, albeit useful ones.- I immediately recognized anonymous giving as one of Maimonides higher levels of Tzedakah. The point is to preserve the dignity of the receiver (not embarrass them). However, not showing us (the readers) the face of the homeless man is a mistake. The homeless are often passed by and not given the basic dignity of being acknowledged by another human being. We also don't see him actually receive his gifts - what a joy that could have been, for children to see that their small amount of help is appreciated! Our family lives a minimalist lifestyle. We don't bring in enough to get everything we want or to help everybody we want; we encourage and give tzedakah, and also help others in ways that are not monetary, but we don't expect our son to give away everything he has just because there are those who are needier. I think it's OK to try to enjoy what you have despite there being more problems than you can personally solve.I appreciate a good fantastical story, even one ("The Secret of the Sabbath Fish") where a poor person helps those even poorer, but this one just doesn't feel right.
